What is Early Act?Early Act is a younger version of Rotary International. Our Early Act group is sponsored by Lowell Rotary in an effort to teach students to be more aware of the world around them. For more information on Early Act, what it is, and how to get started at your school, go here: http://www.earlyact.com/
Our group focuses on improving our school, community, and the world. Students are encouraged to think beyond themselves and to do what they can to improve the world around them. |
CCE Early Act Beginnings
The seed for Cherry Creek's Early Act group was planted in 2011 when Mr. Audia showed a series of videos to his class around Thanksgiving time. The videos showed some of the world's poorest and the lengths everyday people will go to to help those in need. Intended to help the students self-reflect and be thankful for what they had, the videos had a much greater impact on his class. The kids wanted to DO SOMETHING. (Wondering about those videos? Check them out at the right.)
They decided to raise money for water filters for people in Haiti. As a class they researched, advertised, collaborated, made picket signs, reached out to area businesses to help fund their project, and researched some more. They made presentations to the school about Haiti and their desperate need for clean water. Finally, with a little starter money from Lighthouse Foods--a local company--they were able to purchase rubber bracelets. They developed a business plan and sold the bracelets--a new color every week for a total of five weeks--to students at Cherry Creek. The bracelets were incredibly popular and sold out every week.

An official Early Act Club started the following school year. Now Early Act meets every week where they make loans on Kiva.org, learn more about the people and countries they have loaned to, and discuss how to spread their knowledge and passion to the rest of the students in the school. Since then, the group has loaned money to people in more than 70 countries world wide! (The video below was made at 67 countries.) |
