Mr. Audia received an email today from one of the kind people who purchased some of our art at the Denim and Diamonds Rotary Auction. She included pictures of the kids' art hanging in her home. It looks beautiful and we just have to share! Check it out: Celebration #2!!! We left everyone hanging last week with our teaser about being radio stars. This week we'd like to announce that our Early Act group has been invited to an interview at Lowell School's radio station (92.3 FM--WRWW). Please have your radios tuned to 92.3 FM on Saturday, May 9 at 10:00 to hear students from our group as well as the Middle School and High School Interact groups. This is super exciting for us!!! To listen online via the stations website, click here. And, finally, this last little blurb is less a celebration for us and more a celebration of Kiva. They have a new tool on their site where you can watch loans live as they are made. At our meeting today, we made a loan and watched it shoot across the screen from Lowell, MI, USA to Uganda, Africa. Take a look! (But beware... It's a bit mesmerizing!) Kiva's heartbeat: Click here!
Could there BE more going on?! Not being able to come up with a title that ties together all the wonderfulness we have going is a great problem to have! Check it all out below: High School Interact MeetingOne of the amazing things that has happened here at Lowell Area Schools is that we have a club dedicated to helping others at ALL LEVELS. Here at Cherry Creek we have Early Act at the elementary level. There are groups at Lowell Middle School and Lowell High School as well called Interact Clubs. Mr. Audia and Mrs. Connor went to the High School last week to meet with their Interact Club and their leader, Mr. Boudro. It was amazing to see around 90 high school students meeting BEFORE their school day because they are interested in helping other people. Our students here at Cherry Creek were excited to hear that they will be able to continue the work they love through high school! At the Interact meeting, we presented the group with a painting done by Early Act students. The group has donated money to our group in the past, and we felt it was important to say THANK YOU! Girl Scouts Are Awesome!
"Stamp Out Extreme Poverty"We are currently running a fundraiser similar to our Help Haiti days and our Purple Pinkie polio days. Students can come to the Early Act store (open Tuesdays and Thursdays) and donate any amount of money to help "Stamp Out Extreme Poverty." Students who donate can choose to have their hands stamped with fun Early Act stamps OR their pinkie colored. Why are we talking about extreme poverty? Click here and explore the infographic. Our favorite section: The bottom left. Please notice that extreme poverty has been cut in half since 1990!!! This is exciting to us because it means there IS a solution! And we want to be part of it! We Are Going to be Radio Stars!!Did you know that Lowell Area Schools has a radio station (92.3 FM)? Stay tuned in the next couple of weeks for information about Early Act's radio debut alongside the Middle School and High School Interact Clubs!!! ;)
Our friends in the Lowell Rotary came to us before Spring Break asking if our Early Act students would be willing to create some artwork to be auctioned off at their "Denim and Diamonds" event this Friday. The Rotary puts on this fundraiser every two years. The proceeds go towards local and international service projects (half of the money raised goes to each). Their goal is to raise $40,000! In the past, money has gone to build the skate park and the pavilion by the trail by Cherry Creek. Other funds have raised money for water filters in Haiti. When we told the Early Act crew about it, they were ALL ABOUT IT.
Today we had a great group of students come and create four original works of art using their thumb prints. Some very lucky people will get to hang these beautiful works on their walls. Check out the pictures below to see the kids creating the art as well as the finished products. |
