Food Fight!!!
As mentioned in our last blog, we kicked off our annual food drive called "Food Fight for FROM" last week. From now until May 23, all schools in Lowell will be collecting food and toiletries for FROM. Cherry Creek is in competition with the other schools in the district to try to collect the most items. A group of high school Interact Club members visited our Early Act meeting to give our students a better idea of what the "Food Fight" is and what FROM needs most. They also filmed Early Act students for a commercial they are making to promote the food drive. As soon as it's available we will share! |
FROM is requesting healthier versions of foods this year. For example, they ask that people choose to send in fruit packed in light syrup or water rather than the heavy syrup, or low sodium options rather than salted. Also new this year--Amway is donating $1 for each item donated up to $10,000. Obviously we want that max dollar amount, so the goal is to collect 10,000 items. Monetary donations will be accepted as well. |
Friday, our Early Act ambassadors collected items from all the classrooms in the school. Our school has already collected almost 400 items! We have several weeks to go and will keep you updated!
Kiva Loan-a-rama!
Our Early Act meeting today was a loan-a-rama!! Students grabbed a Chromebook, logged in, and made some Kiva loans. Students chose group loans (a safer, more reliable loan than individual loans) that would be paid back in a year or less. They spent time reading the stories of the people getting the loans and chose those that spoke to them in some way. We made over 20 loans today to people all over the world from South America to Africa to Asia and the Middle East. Check out our Kiva Profile (button above) to see them.
