When Mrs. Kapolka heard that Bushnell will be selling bottles of water at their Super Reader Celebration tomorrow night, she immediately thought of all the plastic bottles that could potentially be kept out of the landfills if only they could be collected.... (Mrs. Kapolka is the teacher here at Cherry Creek who coordinates the Earth Day Challenge every year.) Since she can't attend that night, she asked Early Act students who may be going with a younger sibling to help collect bottles for our challenge. Despite a small crowd of Early-acters, due to Music rehearsals and the new GaGa Pit out on the playground, several students offered to help collect bottles for Cherry Creek on Thursday night. They even asked for a sheet of facts so they could educate the public about how awful plastic is for our environment. Saving the world just comes naturally to these kids!!!
Early Act will be in charge of Cherry Creek's Food Fight for FROM again this year. We'd like to make a new commercial, so stay tuned!!! (Check out last year's on our "Community" section of the webpage.)
BIG NEWS!!! We loaned to THREE new countries this week!! We have now loaned to 78 of the 84 countries on Kiva! Our recent additions (pictured in order below) are: Jean Edouard of Madagascar is using his loan to buy chicks and feed to grow and eventually cook in his small street restaurant. Edda from the Solomon Islands owns a bakery where she sells sweetcakes and muffins. Elizabeth from Namibia is a regional manager for a company who educates people in the country who are "off the grid" (no electricity is run to their area) about the dangers of alternative light sources--kerosene and candles. The company sells affordable solar light devices to people in the area. Elizabeth is taking out the loan because having cash on hand gives her more buying power.
