We had a large group today despite the warmer weather (yay!) and the sunshine beckoning from outside. Why would these fourth and fifth graders opt to stay inside?? Today we had a special guest at our meeting. Lowell Rotary president, Deborah Wilks came to CCE to make a connection with our kids. She shared some of the things that Rotary does to help the community of Lowell and the world, and we found that our two groups aren't all that different! |
One of the things Mrs. Wilks was interested in and excited about was the work Early Act has done to raise money to make loans on Kiva.org. She even made her own donation and was able to see us make a loan in her honor on Kiva! Mrs. Wilks's energy and excitement was contagious. She talked about the amazing things just $25 can do and how happy she is to support the Early Act group. There were cheers when we submitted the loan. CHEERS! Love this stuff! |

Mrs. Wilks shared the Four-Way test with our Early Act club, and we recited it with her. This test is a way to conduct oneself in all areas of life (even at home with brothers and sisters). If an action doesn't pass the Four-Way test, then it should be avoided. Students were able to articulate why each part of the test is important and how it can help us be more happy, helpful people. Rotary members recite this test at the end of each meeting, and we intend to incorporate it into our meetings too. It is a great reminder of what we are doing in Early Act. |
