The Early Act Store officially opened today at lunch. It will now be open EVERY Tuesday and Thursday at lunch. Today was more about putting the store back on kids' radar rather than making money, and it was a big success! Kids were checking out the new pencils we made last week. A special thank you to Mrs. Rogers (Katie's mom) for running the store today. We have an enthusiastic group of students who are ready to help run it in the future. |
At our meeting today during recess, we had some special guests from the Lowell High School's Interact Club!!! Tess Richardson, the president of Interact, and Garret Taylor, a board member, came to tell our Early Act group a little about what they do at the high school level. They were amazed by our students' enthusiasm in truly wanting to make the world a better place. To celebrate, we made a Kiva loan!! This loan was to a group in Cambodia in need of a latrine. Click here to see the loan in more detail. (By the way... we were the final $25 to complete the loan!!) |
We also talked about some craft ideas to add to our store. We are looking into forming a committee of kids who are interested in making crafts for the store outside of Early Act meeting time. We are also in need of a committee devoted to micro-financing on Kiva. A good problem we have is that the loans we have made are constantly being repaid, so we need to re-lend this money to others in need!! What a great way for students to learn about money and economics in an authentic way!
