We are back at it! Our first few meetings were spent getting to know the new fourth graders (and some new fifth graders!!), brainstorming ideas for this year's projects, and meeting the Lowell Rotarians we will be working with this year. This week we started our first project--Recycling for the Wittenbach-Wege Center.
Mrs. Kapolka brought this idea to our attention at our second meeting. Our district's nature center, the Wittenbach-Wege Center always encourages kids to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Whenever we eat lunch at the center, they talk students through how to know which things from their lunch can be kept out of the trash and out of the landfill. One of the things they do is collect juice and fruit pouches to send in for money. Mrs. Kapolka felt like we could collect these at our school and send them to the WWC to earn them more money. The kids agreed! | At this week's meeting, we talked about the best way to help other students know where to put the pouches. We made signs to put on the boxes and to advertise around the cafeteria. The signs encourage kids to recycle their pouches instead of throwing them away. |
