It has been WAY TOO LONG since we've last updated the blog. Please look below for updates on our most recent projects!
World Poverty Awareness Week
Our World Poverty Awareness Campaign was an amazing success. Students at Cherry Creek raised over $560 in ONE WEEK!! That's more than half of our yearly goal! We will be able to make 22 loans on Kiva. The best part is, that money will keep coming back to us as our loans are repaid. And when it does, we get to help even more families lift themselves out of extreme poverty. To see what we did during the campaign, click here. |
Learning Night and Mary Beth Wade Memorial Fund
Celebrate Learning night is an open house at Cherry Creek Elementary where classrooms are open and student work is on display. There is also and ice cream sundae bar and live music. It's a wonderful community event! This year, Early Act decided to have a booth to promote what Early Act is and also host a silent auction for the Mary Beth Wade Memorial Fund. | The video (LEFT) was playing at our Learning Night Display. Check it out to see some of our fifth graders telling a little about what Early Act is and what they have done this year. |
For those who don't know, Mary Beth Wade was the secretary at Cherry Creek for several years. She was a dear friend to many and when she passed away in the winter of last year, the hole that was left was felt by all of us. Ms. Wade loved her family (including her fur family), friends, and books.
We planted a tree for her in the fall this year (check out the baby weeping cherry tree at the entrance of the school), and would like to add a special section of the CCE library where we could display her picture along with some books by her favorite authors. To do this, we put some student-made art out for silent auction during this year's Celebrate Learning Night before Spring Break.

Food Fight! Community food drive starts next week!
Every year Lowell High School's Interact group organizes the Food Fight for FROM (Flat River Outreach Ministries) for all of the schools in the district. This year's Food Fight will start on Monday (April 18) and run through May 23. Each Friday, Early Act ambassadors will collect cans from their ambassador classrooms and total them up. The classroom at Cherry Creek that brings in the most items will win a pizza party. The school that brings in the most will get to house the spectacular Food Fight trophy and have bragging rights for the year. Cherry Creek last won in 2013. This is our year! |
