We had plenty to celebrate today at our Wednesday Early Act meeting. Our celebration began with a look back at our Help Haiti days. Our final Help Haiti "Thursday" was a SNOW DAY!! So we had a combination Help Haiti Tuesday and Early Act Store on Tuesday this week. Having had a snow day the Monday before as well, we didn't quite know what to expect. Well... the totals are in, and we collected $126!!! Hooray! That, combined with our past weeks' totals, gives us enough money to put water filters into the homes of FOUR families. SWEEET!
Celebrations continued with discussion about THREE NEW COUNTRIES we picked up on Kiva!!!
[Back story: We have now made 163 loans in 74 of the 84 countries available on Kiva.org!!! For anyone not familiar with Kiva, check it out here: www.kiva.org. You can also see what WE have to say about Kiva here. Our Early Act crew has made it a goal to have at least one loan in all of the countries where Kiva is present. This is difficult because there are not always loans available in all 84 countries. You have to catch them at JUST the right time.\
In the past week, we have made loans in Panama, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Egypt. Check out the pictures and info below (There are also clickable links if you are interested in more information about each loan.)

This is Iris Eunice. She lives in Panama and needed this loan to help expand the sales space where she sells goods. She has three children and has been working her whole life to improve the quality of life of her children. Click here to read more about Iris. |
Our loan to Kurcelle (pictured at the right) will help her to START HER OWN BUSINESS! How cool is that? She loves to cook and wants to buy a refrigerator, a stove, a pressure cooker, and a food processor so she can make and sell some of her favorite foods to people who work near her home in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. More info about Kurcelle and her loan is available here. |
Neema (pictured at left) lives in Bani Suwayf, Egypt. She is planning to expand her clothing sales business. She has already paid back one loan successfully and needs to grow to meet customer demand. Click here to read more about her and her loan. |
